National News: Congress MP and senior diplomatic thinker Shashi Tharoor dismissed the arbitration claim of US President Donald Trump over the India-Pakistan dispute during the US visit. Tharoor said that there can be no similarity between the country-spreading country and a nation running on democratic values, so the matter of any kind of mediation between these two sides is not practical and morally acceptable.

Tharoor is currently on a visit to the US with an Indian parliamentary delegation. He made this clear statement during a discussion held at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Washington, DC.

Why did Tharoor reject Trump's arbitration?

Tharoor said, "Mediation is a word that we cannot accept, as it imagines interaction between two equal-level sides. But the issue between India and Pakistan is based on inequalities. There can be no comparison between terrorists and victims."

He said that India is a multi-party democracy that is on the path of development, while Pakistan is a country that gives protection to terrorism and wants to challenge the established geopolitical system of South Asia.

What did Tharoor say on the role of America?

Regarding the role of America, Shashi Tharoor said that the US has definitely held high-level communication with both sides. "We have many calls from the US government at the top level, which reflect their anxiety and interest. It is possible that the US may have done similar dialogues with Pakistan and the US had more impact," Tharoor said.

Questions raised on Trump's claims

Significantly, on May 10, US President Donald Trump claimed on social media that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan had a conversation with America's mediation. After this, he repeatedly reiterated that he has played an important role in solving Indo-Pak tension.

However, India has always clarified that India-Pakistan issues are bilateral and there is no need or permission for a third-party mediation. This statement of Shashi Tharoor is seen as a diplomatic reconstruction of the same policy.

India's tough stance and Pakistan's difficulties

Tharoor's remarks come at a time when India is taking rigorous military and diplomatic steps like 'Operation Sindoor' against terror. Also, the exercise to re-include Pakistan in FATF's gray list has also intensified.

India has started putting its side firmly on global forums as well. Recently, countries like Indonesia have agreed to present India's favor in the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation). With this, it will not be easy for Pakistan to run an anti-India campaign on international forums as before.

The statement reflects the certainty & self-reliance of foreign policy

This clear and rational statement of Shashi Tharoor shows the certainty and self-reliance of India's foreign policy. India has now assumed that countries suffering from terrorism and terror cannot be weighed on the same scales, and it is now giving this message clearly on both its diplomatic and military levels.
